Department At A Glance

The Department of Botany was established in the year 2019 with the introduction of Botany as a subject in undergraduate programme (B.Sc.) The current UG course curriculum for Botany is structured by Hemchand Yadav University, Durg in an interdisciplinary manner. It contains major sections on different plant species and their life cycle; also Pathology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Cytology, Plant breeding, Biotechnology, Taxonomy, Molecular Biology constitute the UG curriculum. The Department organises student seminar weekly and students are also encouraged to publish wall magazines and posters. 

The paramount significance and priority of the department is to increase the academic interest and to generate all round progress and overall personality development of students.

Course Offered: B.Sc. (Botany, Zoology, Chemistry)

                           Intake: 90 seats for each year

Vision

The vision of the Department of Botany is to develop a centre of excellence in plant sciences that fosters scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and innovation among students. The department aims to impart quality education in botany and related interdisciplinary fields, encouraging students to understand plant diversity, ecological sustainability, and the role of plants in human welfare. It aspires to nurture competent graduates who can contribute to scientific research, environmental conservation, and sustainable development.

Mission 

  1. To provide quality undergraduate education in Botany through a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum designed by Hemchand Yadav University, Durg.

  2. To strengthen theunderstanding of plant biology including plant diversity, physiology, genetics,cytology, biotechnology, taxonomy, and molecular biology.

  3. To promote scientific temperament and research aptitude among students through seminars, academic discussions, and practical learning.

  4. To encourage student participation in academic activities such as weekly seminars, poster presentations, and wall magazine publications to enhance their communication and analytical skills.

  5. To contribute to the overall personality development of students by nurturing creativity, discipline, teamwork, and environmental awareness.

  6. To prepare students forhigher education, research opportunities, and careers in life sciences andallied fields.

Objectives of the Department (Next Five Years)

1. To enhance the qualityof teaching and learning in botany through innovative teaching methodologiesand practical exposure.

2. To strengthen interdisciplinary learning by integrating areas such as plant pathology, biochemistry, genetics, biotechnology, and molecular biology within the undergraduate curriculum.

3. To organize regular academic activities including seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and fieldvisits to enrich students’ knowledge and research orientation.

4. To encourage students to participate in scientific writing, poster presentations, and wall magazine publications to improve their communication and creative skills.

5. To promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices through botanical studies andcommunity outreach activities.

6. To motivate studentsfor higher studies and careers in research, biotechnology, environmental science, and plant sciences.

7. To increase student participation in academic and co-curricular activities for holistic development.
